About Me

This is My Story

I grew up in Selma, Alabama, played outside ’til dark, walked to school, and ate hamburgers during Friday night football games.

The Civil Rights movement and our small-town life shaped who I became. As a child, I didn’t understand separate movie entrances and water fountains. In an integrated high school, black classmates mourned the loss of their school. Anger, pain, and frustration marked the communications council I served. Why couldn’t I drive a black classmate home? Because she was afraid of backlash against us.

Could I make a difference in this upside-down world? Maybe.

I am grateful that the healthcare professions of nursing, physical therapy, and education taught me communication and encouragement skills for a medical and personal journey.

From that stream flows stories. Sit with me on the porch swing where we can feel the breeze whispering through the pines and oaks.

My husband and I live in a rural community near the Gulf Coast with two rescue dogs and two cats who think they rescued us. Around suppertime, I might set extra places for our three sons, daughter-in-law, and granddaughter.
